How to add an accountability partner
A partner does not police you. They are simply somebody who can see what happened, which turns out to be most of the effect.
Open Partners in your account, send an invitation to their email address, and they accept from the link within seven days. They see your flagged activity, web history and app usage. They change your settings only if you allow it, no partner can end a cool-down early, and a partner ends a device lock only when you ask them to.
How to do it
Pick somebody who will not make it weird
A friend, a sibling, a sponsor, a spouse. The only requirement is that you would be mildly embarrassed for them to see a bad week, and not so embarrassed that you would delete the account instead.
Send the invitation
Open Partners, type their email address under Invite an accountability partner, and choose what, if anything, they may change. Everything starts switched off. They get an email explaining what is being asked before they are asked to agree to anything.
Let them accept in their own time
Being a partner is free, permanently. They create an account with the address you invited, and accept. The invitation expires after seven days if they would rather not.
Tell them what you actually want from them
This is the step everyone skips. "Ask me about it if you see something" and "do not mention it unless I bring it up" are both fine. What does not work is neither of you knowing which one it is.
What a partner can see
- What was blocked or flagged.The same activity feed you see, without any pictures: if you keep one with a detection, only you can open it.
- Your web history and app usage.From every device you have enrolled, read only.
- Nothing else.Not your files, not your location, and nothing from a device you have not enrolled.
What a partner can and cannot change
Unless you give them permission, they cannot change anything. You can let a partner change your rules, your schedules, your consequences or your cool-downs, one at a time, and you are told about every change they make. Anything they loosen still waits out your cool-down.
Whatever you allow, no partner can end a cool-down early or remove Kellet, and a partner ends a device lock only when you ask them to. Most people start a partner on view only: a partner with control is a person you end up hiding things from; a partner who can only see is a person you end up telling.
Removing a partner
You can remove a partner from the Partners page, with Revoke access. Changing what a partner may do is on the same page, under Change access. Both happen straight away, unless you have set a partner removal delay on the Cooldowns page: then they take that long, and your partner is told as soon as you ask.
