When something is blocked
Domains and URLs
Redirect sends the browser to another address, Google by default, which you set in Redirect to. Blocked page shows Kellet’s blocked page. Close the tab and Close the browser do what they say. The blocked page and closing just the tab are Windows only; on a phone, Kellet steps back from the blocked address instead.
The Let me through button
With Blocked page chosen on Windows, you can add a Let me through button to the page. It is off to begin with, and turning it on waits out your rule cooldown. What it does:
- Start the cool-down.The page stays blocked and unblocking it joins your queue, like any other loosening. This is the default.
- Tell my partner. The page opens and your partner is told you asked, if your notification settings share unlock requests with partners.
- Let me straight through. The page opens. This is the weakest setting Kellet has.
In-page web content
For an explicit image or video on a page you are otherwise allowed on: Blur it (the default), Remove it, Close the tab or Close the browser.
Apps
Close the app (the default) or Monitor. With Close the app, you can also choose Block the app after repeated detections, after anything from 1 to 10 detections.
Files on this device
For a flagged file found by file scanning: Flag it (the default) records it in Activity; Quarantine it moves it out of reach until you restore or delete it from Activity.
Escalations: if it keeps happening
Two escalations, both off until you turn them on. Each counts detections on a device, and when enough arrive close together, within about half an hour, it acts on that device.
Lock the device
Lock after a number of detections, from 1 to 20. The device locks for the first step of the ladder: 5 minutes, then 15, 30, 1 hour and 3 hours by default. Each time it triggers again, the lock lasts for the next step, up to the last one. You can set each step from 1 minute to 24 hours, and have up to ten; Add another step adds one at double the length of the last.
Cut off the internet
The same idea, but the device keeps working offline. Cut the internet after a number of detections, and the internet stays off for the current step of its own ladder.
What a locked device looks like
On Windows, a full-screen Device Locked notice explains why and shows when it unlocks. On a phone, a This device is locked. screen covers everything, and the phone’s own screen lock is applied too if Kellet has device admin.
A lock ends when its time runs out, or earlier if you ask your accountability partners and one of them approves. You cannot end it yourself. To ask, press Request unlock on the lock screen, on Windows or a phone, or Ask a partner to end the lock on the device’s page in Kellet.
An approved request ends the lock on that device straight away, and an internet cut from Cut off the internet ends with it. The ladder keeps its place: the next time the device locks, the lock is as long as it would have been anyway. Nobody can end a cooldown early.
Which changes wait
Anything stricter applies straight away. Anything gentler waits out your rule cooldown: turning an escalation off, needing more detections before it acts, shortening a step on a ladder or removing its last step, turning off app blocking after repeated detections, turning on the Let me through button, and choosing a softer response, such as blurring instead of closing the tab. Switching between Redirect and Blocked page is neither, so it applies at once, as do the redirect address and the wording of the blocked page.
If one save makes one thing stricter and another gentler, the stricter part applies straight away and only the gentler part waits.
A waiting change shows a band under its control with a countdown, then Apply and Cancel once it is ready.
