Choosing what Kellet blocks

The Rules page: categories of sites, the finer controls inside adult content and social networks, Shorts and Reels, and on-screen detection.

Content categories

Each category has three settings: Block, Monitor and Allow. The categories are Adult content, Gambling, Proxies & VPNs, Violence & gore, Social networks, Gaming, Dating, File sharing, and Drugs & alcohol. A new account blocks adult content and allows the rest.

Categories apply to every device on your account.

  • Block.Sites in the category do not load.
  • Monitor.Sites in the category are not blocked. Visits show up in Web history, as every visit does.
  • Allow.Kellet leaves the category alone.

Fine-tuning adult content

Open Fine-tune what counts as adult under Adult content to set seven kinds of image separately: Explicit & nudity, Suggestive, Swimwear, Lingerie & underwear, Hosiery, Bare male chest, and Feet & footwear. These are what on-screen detection looks for.

Here Monitor means flag it: the detection is recorded in Activity and nothing is blocked. A row set to the same value as Adult content simply follows Adult content.

Choosing which social networks

Social networks can be blocked as a whole or one at a time. Open Choose which networks to block to set Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube and the others individually, and use the filter box to find one.

Shorts and Reels

Block Shorts and Reels blocks YouTube Shorts and Instagram and Facebook Reels, in their apps and in the browser, while leaving the rest of those services working. It also blocks TikTok’s video feed. It is on for every new account.

In an app on a phone, Kellet steps back out of the Shorts or Reels player and says the feature is blocked on this device.

Sensitive image detection

On-screen detection looks at the images on the screen for the kinds of content set above, and acts on them according to your Consequences. On a PC it is controlled here. On a phone it also has to be allowed on the phone itself, in the Kellet app.

  • Sensitivity.Standard or High. High catches more, with more false positives.
  • How closely to check videos. On Windows: Spot check looks at five frames of a video, Scene by scene at roughly one every two seconds, Every second at as many as it can.
  • Capture a frame on a block, and Show the blocked image.Keep a blurred picture with the Activity entry. Both are off unless you turn them on, and only you can open them: a partner sees the entry, never the picture.
  • Proactively scan image and video files.Checks files saved on the device, not just what is on screen. Off unless you turn it on.

SafeSearch

There is no switch for it: Kellet forces strict SafeSearch on Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo, and restricted mode on YouTube. On a phone this applies while Adult content is set to Block.

What applies now, and what waits

Moving anything towards Block takes effect straight away. Moving anything towards Allow, turning off Shorts and Reels blocking, or turning a detection setting down waits out your rule cooldown.

While a change waits, a band under the control says Takes effect in and counts down, then Ready to apply with Apply and Cancel. Each rule can only have one change waiting at a time.

Common questions

Does a rule apply to all my devices?
Categories, Always blocked and Always allowed, Shorts and Reels, and detection settings apply to the whole account. Blocking an app is the exception: that is set per device.
Why is a site I expected to be blocked still loading?
Check it is in a category set to Block, not Monitor. If the category is blocked and the site still loads, add it to Always blocked by name.
I blocked something by mistake. How do I undo it?
Set it back. Because that is a loosening, it waits out your rule cooldown; if your cooldown is Off it applies straight away.
