Letting a site through
- Find out what blocked it
In Activity, a site blocked by a category is tagged with it, such as Blocked Category: Social Networks. Web history lists every visit; choose Blocked to see only the blocked ones.
- Open Rules and find Always allowed
It is the last list on the Rules page, under Always blocked. A site on it is never blocked, whatever the categories say, and it wins over Always blocked too.
- Choose Domain and type the site
Domain lets through the site and everything under it, so
example.comalso coversshop.example.com. To let through one part of a site and nothing else, choose URL instead. - Press Add, then Apply when it is ready
Allowing a site waits out your rule cooldown. The entry shows Allowed in and a countdown, then Ready with Apply. Press Apply within 24 hours or the change lapses. With your rule cooldown Off, it applies straight away.
Change as little as you can
When Kellet is more aggressive than you need, loosen the narrowest thing that fixes it: one site on Always allowed rather than a whole category set to Allow, or one kind of picture set to Monitor rather than all of them.
Every fix on this page waits out your rule cooldown. While you are still getting your rules right, keep that cooldown short: setup recommends 30 minutes. Raising it later applies at once, while lowering it waits out the length you set.
Ordinary pictures are blurred, or a page closes
On-screen detection acts on the kinds of image listed under Fine-tune what counts as adult on the Rules page. If it keeps catching something harmless, such as beach photos or a shoe shop:
- Set that kind to Monitor.Swimwear, Feet & footwear, Bare male chest and the others each have their own row. Monitor records the detection in Activity and blocks nothing; Allow leaves it alone.
- Set Sensitivity to Standard.High catches more, and gets more wrong.
- Choose a gentler response. On the Consequences page, under In-page web content, Blur it keeps you on the page, where Close the tab and Close the browser do not. If blocked sites close your browser, choose Redirect or Blocked page under Domains & URLs instead.
An app keeps closing
By default Kellet closes an app when on-screen detection finds something in it. To record the detection and leave the app open, choose Monitor under Apps on the Consequences page. If Block the app after repeated detections is on, raise the number of detections it takes, or turn it off.
With Automatically block newly installed apps on, every new app on that device starts blocked. Open the device from Devices, go to its Apps tab, and choose Unblock beside the one you need.
A keyword catches too much
A Keyword entry blocks any address with the word anywhere in it, so a short one reaches further than you meant: sex also blocks essex.ac.uk. Take it off Always blocked and add the sites you meant as Domain entries, or use a longer word.
A device locks too readily
The escalations on the Consequences page lock a device, or cut off its internet, when detections pile up on it. Every site your rules block counts as a detection, including one a category blocked, so a site you need that keeps getting blocked can lock the device. Letting that site through stops both.
- Raise Lock after or Cut the internet after, so it takes more detections.
- Shorten the steps on the ladder, then press Save.
- Turn the escalation off.
If a device is locked now
A lock runs until its time is up, unless one of your accountability partners ends it. Press Request unlock on the lock screen to ask them.
If you have no partner to ask, or the lock is far longer than you meant, write to Kellet support at info@kellet.app. Support can end it, and your partners are told that it did.
