The idea in one sentence
Kellet is a blocker you set up for yourself while you are thinking clearly. Making it stricter takes effect the moment you save. Anything that gives you more access waits out a cooldown you chose, so the version of you who wants to undo it at midnight has to wait for the version of you who set it.
Every screen in the app is one part of that idea.
The pieces
- Rules. What gets blocked: categories of sites, the specific sites and apps you name, and what on-screen detection looks for. Rules apply to every device on your account.
- Schedules.Hours when a device is limited, such as late at night.
- Consequences. What happens when something is blocked, and what happens if it keeps happening: locking the device or cutting off its internet for a while.
- Cooldowns. How long a loosening has to wait before it counts, and, separately, how long removing Kellet from a device has to wait.
- Partners.People you invite to see your activity and, only if you allow it, to change your settings.
- Devices. The PCs and phones Kellet is installed on. Each one reports what it blocked back to your account.
What takes effect now, and what waits
Anything stricter applies straight away: blocking a site, turning on a category, adding a schedule, raising a cooldown.
Things that loosen your setup, such as unblocking a site, turning a category off, turning off an escalation or lowering your rule cooldown, join a queue on the Cooldowns page and wait out your rule cooldown. When the wait is over you press Apply, and you have 24 hours to do it before the change lapses. Cancelling a waiting change is always immediate.
If your rule cooldown is set to Off, loosenings apply straight away. That is where every new account starts, so nothing waits until you decide it should.
What Kellet never does
- There is no pause.Blocking cannot be switched off for an hour or a day. Loosening a rule goes through the cooldown like anything else.
- Nobody can cut a wait short. Not you, and not a partner: a partner can never end a cooldown early. The one exception is a device lock, which a partner can end early when you ask them to, and only then.
- It never holds onto your machine. You can always remove Kellet: request removal, wait out the uninstall cooldown you chose, and the device is removable for an hour. If your plan ends, or you delete your account, Kellet stands down and can be removed with no wait at all.
Where to start
A new account is taken through a short setup walkthrough that covers each piece in turn and ends with your first device protected. You can leave it at any point and pick it up again from Finish setting up in the account menu.
